What Does It Offer?

The Associate of Applied Science Health Sciences degree offers individuals interested in healthcare careers a well rounded general education experience coupled with training in a clinical specialty for entry into the allied health workforce.

Upon successful completion of the programs, graduates will

  • Be capable of exercising and demonstrating basic professional and technical responsibilities (associated with a specific clinical field of study) within the workplace
  • Possess a solid foundation in general education in addition to their clinical knowledge and experience
  • Be better prepared for continuing their education at the baccalaureate level and beyond

Core Skills & General Education

When you are on the degree track, the majority of the program remains focused on the Allied Health Skills portions of the educational experience. The additional time in the program is spent getting a well rounded foundation of general education skills designed to make you more versatile in the workplace.

Your Credit Breakdown

Here is a breakdown of the credits and contact hours for each of the Health Sciences concentrations. As you can see, the vast majority of the overall program is spent developing the core Allied Health skills required to successfully enter the workforce.

  • Medical Assisting: 900 Contact Hours & 62 Credits in the Clinical Concentration. 300 Contact Hours & 30 Credits in General Education.
  • Dental Assisting: 900 Contact Hours & 58 Credits in the Clinical Concentration. 320 Contact Hours & 32 Credits in General Education.
  • Pharmacy Technician: 900 Contact Hours & 73 Credits in the Clinical Concentration. 270 Contact Hours & 27 Credits in General Education.

Additional Program Length

Yes, getting the Associates Degree takes a little longer. ACT College understands that you are eager to get out there into the workforce and our goal is to make sure that happens in the most efficient way we can.

As you can see, there is not a tremendous amount of additional time required and benefits of an Associates Degree are well worth the time spent.
