Health Sciences Degree Program Requirements
Admissions Requirements
The program is available to first time allied health students and graduates of other approved and accredited training programs. At a minimum, applicants to the program must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- 18 years of age
- U.S. Citizen or Resident Alien
- High School Diploma or GED
- Passing score on the PAR Entrance Test
- Interview with Career Advisor
- $50 non-refundable application fee
- Statement of General Health
Credit/Grade Requirements
The A.A.S. Health Sciences degree provides a more liberalized education than the vocational diploma/certificate alone. The degree includes a minimum of 95 quarter credits from three categories:
- Up to 70 quarter credits for a diploma or certificate from an accredited program in Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Medical Administrative Specialist, or Pharmacy Technician (at least 50 quarter credits and a maximum of 70 credits may be applied toward the A.A.S. degree requirements)
- 30 or more quarter credits outside of the technical discipline, including communication, computation and quantitative reasoning, behavioral and social sciences, natural sciences
- Up to 20 elective credits by completing other available courses offered at the institution or through academic transfer and identified as eligible for satisfying degree program requirements
- A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale for previously completed course work at the high school or post-secondary level
- At least 51% of the credits counted toward the conferral of the A.A.S. degree must be earned at ACT College
